Speed Reading Techniques
Whilst this is a fantastic skill to achieve, it is no good if we cannot remember anything. Therefore, it is important to understand how to speed read as well as to apply speed reading memorization techniques. When we understand how something works or the concepts behind a topic, it is always far easier to remember. This virtually mimics the way a speed reader will handle a reading task. He will not read word-for-word, but rather large blocks of information. While reading, he will focus more attention on the key aspects of the writing.
Some people find that they cannot pay attention and have a tendency to daydream when they have gone through three or four pages without remembering a word. The important thing is to do something about it, not just tell yourself, as so many people do: I can’t concentrate. You should be able to read for at least an hour or two without interruption. When you begin to feel that you are not getting as much out of your reading as you ought to, rest for a while.
Speed reading helps, but it also has other potential issues and challenges because if we speed read a lot and spend our days soaking up information we eventually find our minds dreaming we are reading where our dreams often consist of us scanning a page of type, on a computer screen or in a book. Writers that use the computer a lot, as well as researchers that use a computer to read online research reports often have dreams of doing these things in their sleep. Speed reading is the same way, a person who is new to free online speed reading can not be expected to be able to read thousands of words a minute, but instead what happens is you start of with setting yourself small manageable amounts and over time push yourself to reading more and more in the same amount of time. Some people even dream of comprehending what they are dreaming while asleep, meaning their mind is either creating what they are reading while they are reading it or tricking itself that it is comprehending what it is reading, even though it’s asleep not doing anything.
Students thus, need to pick out facts quickly from the test and remember them, or harvest them from the text into noted to go over later; easier said than done. The work load was truly insane. I had to develop my own techniques and do whatever worked. Now that I am retired, I use this same technique when reading white papers and research reports, or even eBook, blogs, or articles online. If they cannot get through them and pull out the facts, their votes may turn out wrong.
